I Love Sports

Blog Prompt: Since the Super Bowl is over, I would love to know what sports women really love to participate in or watch.

After the Super Bowl is over each year, my husband and I just look at each other and can't wait until August when football season starts back up.

I have always loved football and participated in bowling for almost 30 years. I got hooked on football because a local boy played for the Miami Dolphins during the 70's and when ever they were on tv, you just had to watch the local boy. I watched his team go undefeated and then end up winning 2 Super Bowls. After he stopped playing I kept watching because of Dan Marino. What a great quarterback he was and always will be.

How ironic that our area boy that played on the Dolphins was raised by deaf parents and his mother bowled with me for years until she wasn't able to. What a wonderful woman she is. She taught us all the dirty words by sign language. I missed her when she had to stop bowling.

And of course, you just had to love some of the Super Bowl commercials and my favs were the Budwiser commercials. I am posting the videos below.

And the sweetest one of them all. It made me tear up.

Puzzle Mania

Blog Prompt: Today is National Puzzle Day. What kind of puzzles do you like or dislike and why?

My husband and I love doing puzzles. After we get done with taxes every year, its like a release of tension and we will get a 1000 piece puzzle, lay it out and start putting it together. He will work on it a bit and then I will work on it. Depending on how difficult it is, we usually put one together in a week.

The thing of it is, we always set this puzzle up on the kitchen table and it gets in the way. I have a table on the lanai and I need flat surface to put out there to lay the puzzle pieces on . One of those card table fold up tops.

My fav puzzle right now was one that was all the dog breeds. That was fun to put togther. The ones with a lot of one color, I don't care to put them together. But, I will do it just to work my brain a bit more.

The picture shows the dog puzzle. Lots of brown in that one.

Pie Anyone?

Blog Prompt: Today is National Pie Day. Describe your favorite pie.

Wow, I have to pick??? I will list my fav pies, because I can't choose.

1. Key Lime Pie
2. Jefferson Davis Pie
3. Apple Pie
4. Pecan Pie
5. Silk Pie

Little trivia - Key Lime Pie is not suppose to be green. I found that out living here in Florida. So, I will share with you a great recipe for Key Lime Pie

KEY LIME PIE

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (3 to 4 limes)

  • 4 teaspoons grated lime zest

  • 4 egg yolks

  • 1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk

  • 11 graham crackers

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

It's easier to remove the lime zest from whole limes so I would start with that. Then I would cut the limes in half and squeeze out the juice being careful not to include any pits.

Put graham crackers in food processor to make into crumbs.

1. Whisk the egg yolks and lime zest together in a bowl until tinted light green. This takes about 2 minutes

2. Beat in milk, then juice and set aside at room temperature till it thickens.

3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

4. Mix graham cracker crumbs and sugar in another bowl.

5. Add butter and stir with a fork until well blended.

6. Pour this mixture into a 9-inch pie pan and press over the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Try using the bottom of a measuring cup to make sure the graham cracker mixture forms a firm crust on the bottom of the pie pan.

7. Bake on the center rack for about 15 minutes until the crust is lightly brown, remove and let cool to room temperature.

8. Pour the lime filling into crust, spread evenly, and then bake for 15 minutes until the center sets, but still wiggles when shaken.

9. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature.

10. Refrigerate for at least three hours until well chilled.

I like to add a bit of whip topping on top and I have used a premade crust in a crunch. There is also key lime juice you can buy. This sure is good in the summertime and when the key limes are in season.

Doggie Clothes and Layout

ernestcollarToday is Dress Up Your Pet Day. What would you like to see your pet dressed in and if you don't have one, what if you did?

I have a redneck boxer and I really don't think he would appreciate me putting any kind of clothes on him. Here's an example of what kind of dog he is.

He use to wear kerchiefs and one day he came in my office looking, oh so smug, and I noticed his scarf was gone. I knew at that very moment what he was saying to me. "Mom, it took of that blanky blank blank scarf you make me wear OFF! And you will never find it." He was right. I never found that scarf. He put it some where and I have tore this house apart. Knowing him, he put it in the trash.

The picture of him in a Halloween collar I made him, didn't last long either. He scratched and scratched at it. So I eventually took it off because of how it looked after all that scratching.

Fruitcake and New Year's Eve

Blog Prompt: Today is Fruitcake Toss Day. Have you ever eaten fruitcake? What are your feelings about it?

This won't take long.

FRUITCAKE IS NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve and you got to ring it in with someone special.

My husband and I watched the very disappointing Georgia Tech game and then after that watched the most amazing motorcycle jump we have ever seen. Before he made the jump, we watched Dick Clark count down for the ball drop in New York. Bless His Heart! He does have a hard time counting after his stroke.

Back to the jump.

Robbie Maddison is a very young Evil Knievel and is famous for his jumps. This year he jumped the arch at the Paris Hotel in Vegas and I have a video showing this. Its worth a peek at it.

Happy New Year everyone!!

Family Time and Layouts

Blog Prompt - What does your family time consist of?

Since my hubby and I are suppose to be retired, we do have some time on our hands to football and a few day trips now and again and our occasional "date" we enjoy so much. But we also have a painting business to run, I have an online business and we also manage our rentals. So we are busy sometimes and then we have some down time. Just spending time with my hubby, no matter what we are doing, is special to me.

After the holidays are over my business will slow down and I will be able to catch up on the books and get ready for the dreaded tax season. Yuk!!!!

I want to wish all my friends, family and blog readers a very Merry Christmas and I hope Santa brings you everything you truly want.

Ultimate Husband Sacrifice

ULTIMATE HUSBAND SACRIFICE

I know my husband loves me truly because he did the thing no man ever wants to do.

Buy feminine protection at the Walmart!

Since I am slowly going through menopause, and I mean slowly, I never know if or when my period will come. Even though I still keep up with it on the calendar. What a joke!! Anyway, my day was Saturday morning and when I went to use one of my pads, there was just one. I knew that one wasn't going to last long and my DH was going to Walmart to have a tire looked at.

So I gave him that pitiful, my tummy, I'm having a really bad period, look on my face and he said he would get them for me. I showed him the packaging and off he went without flinching. Wow!! What a great husband to do this for me.

Little did I know, his devilish little mind was working over time to get me back for this. He came home, got out the car and I kept asking him for my bag because I was needing a pad really bad!! Of course, he had to show me what else he purchased at Walmart for himself first. He said, "There was NO way I was going to check out with just those pads, so I had to buy some men items to try and cover them up."

I think all you ladies knew what I was doing at that very moment. Yup, rolling my eyes. He bought a tool box and some wrenches!! And the whole time he was showing them to me so proudly, he was imitating The Tool Guy and doing that stupid "ar ar" sound he makes.

But, I knew in my heart and in my devilish mind that trying to cover up my huge package with simple little tools didn't happen and I know the cashier lady had a good laugh after he walked out of the store. OH and on top of that, he checked those items out at the tire area of Walmart!!

Don't you just love men!!

GOOD DOG

I love any cute video of dogs and their tricks. This is good one here and I hope you enjoy!
